Acts of Mercy

There are times in life when we as Christian must step out and meet the needs of hurting people. Natural disasters, oppressive regimes, abject poverty, and acts of evil leave many people in situations where they cannot help themselves. It is situations like these that God gives His people the chance to exhibit the love of Christ.
We diligently work to be prepared for such times of need. In a country where the affore mentioned calamities are common, we are faced with many opportunities to show mercy to the needy.
January 12, 2010 we experienced the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that took the lives of an estimated 250,000 people. We were far enough away from the epicenter to only have our house severly shaken and a few broken dishes. The next day we were in the city looking for friends. We did clinics in the streets and in the days to come distributed food, water, and clothing to thousands of people.
A group of refugees were relocated to a camp in Montrouis and we ended up helping with the camp. In the end, there were 16 windows left in the camp with nowhere to go and no support. They knew no one in Montrouis but did not have anyone to return to in Port au Prince. As the camp was closed, we rented a small house for each family. We are now in the process to help each of these women find a means to support their fa
milies.
Everyday we have people come to the mission for help. Whether it be for food, clothing, school, medical care, or medication we try to not turn anyone away with careful consideration of the depth of their need. We know we can’t help everyone and this open door policy is very draining, but we believe that although we can’t help everyone, the day we stop caring for every one we have a problem.
